Displaying different content on each screen when using Screen Takeovers

Whilst you can only ever have one Takeover event/Playlist on-screen at a time, this does not prevent you from having differing content appear across each screen when your Takeover schedule kicks in. Utilising Validity and Tagging on your individual pieces of content, you can publish a single Takeover Playlist and have only select assets appear on each Player.

This works great if you have a single piece of content you would like to span across two screens, just split the content into two separate videos, then upload both videos into your Takeover Playlist. You can then add Validity to your assets and Tags on your Players that will lock certain pieces of content to each screen within your Takeover Group.

This article will detail the requirements and the process for carrying out the above.

Requirements for displaying differing content on each screen when a Takeover schedule kicks in

• All content in the Takeover event must have the same duration
• You can only ever have one media type displaying across all screens at one time during a Takeover event (videos, images or web content across all screens, not videos on one screen and images on another)
• Resolutions of all content must match
• If displaying multiple videos, encoding for each video must match

How to configure your Players and content using Validity and Tagging

In order to segregate your content within a single Playlist and isolate this to particular Players, we’ll need to add some tags to each of your Players. Repeat the following steps for each Player that needs its own unique tag:

1. Head to Network > Manage and click on your Player
2. Click on the Tags tab
3. Enter your desired tag then press the Save button (repeat this step if you wish to add multiple tags to your Players)

Now we’ve tagged each of your Players, we’ll need to set Conditions at the asset level to appropriately allocate each asset to the correct Player

1. Head to Content > Playlists > Create/Edit
2. Open your desired Playlist or create a new one
3. Double-click on whichever asset you’d like to add a Condition to
4. Click on the Conditions tab
5. Select an option from the “this asset will play on” dropdown menu
   1. All Players - the content will appear on all Players regardless of the tags applied to them
   2. Players matching all tags below - the content will only appear on your Player if it has all of the tags that you’ve chosen from the field below
   3. Players matching any tag below - the content will appear on your Player if it has any of the tags that you’ve chosen from the field below
   4. Players not matching all tags below - the content will only appear on your Player if it has none of the tags that you’ve chosen from the field below
   5. Players not matching any tag below - the content will appear on your Player if it has none of the tags that you’ve chosen from the field below
6. Once you have set your Conditions, press OK
7. Press Save to save your Playlist

Upon completion of the steps above, you are ready to publish to Takeover content and your assets will appear on their respective Players matching (or not matching) the tags as you have specified in their Conditions. For more information on Conditional Tagging, please see this article.
